Request for Letters of Interest:
Professional & Construction Services For A Future Enka
The Buncombe County Board of Education has purchased 22.17 acres of property at 1243 Sand Hill Road, Asheville (PIN 9617-73-9269) with the intent to build a new Enka Intermediate School. If approved by the Board, this school would open in Fall 2016 or later with a timeline to be developed and directed by the Board of Education.
In anticipation of a Board work session considering this project, professional Architects, Engineers, Designers, General Contractors, site work contractors, surveyors, geotechnical engineers, Test and Balance specialists, commissioning agents, cost estimators, furnishings vendors, transportation engineers, and other facility planning and
construction firms are invited to register their interest to participate in the planning stage, designer selection, contractor prequalification, bidding, procurement and construction processes.
A formal Request for Qualifications open to the public will be issued when and if the Board directs the project to proceed. The intent of this request is to develop a working list of interested parties who may be invited to provide information in the planning process and for consideration in the selection and/or prequalification process. Firms
registered on the list will be included in future correspondence related to the project.
The Board has traditionally utilized a design/bid/build delivery method but will consider alternative delivery methods in the planning stage prior to issuance of an RFQ. The Board has built three intermediate (5th & 6th grades) schools in the past. The most recent schools were completed in 2012, are approximately 106,000sf, house 850 students, and are LEED Silver Certified.
The program, design, function, curriculum, capacity, square footage, building systems and budget of this project will reference and update those previously completed projects. Updates and modifications from previously constructed intermediate school projects will be based upon specifically identified needs, curriculum goals, updated code requirements, unique site characteristics, opportunities for cost efficiency, and equity with other Buncombe County
