CarolinaEast Auxiliary Offers $25,000 in Scholarships to Local High School Seniors

by 03/11/2017

New Bern, N.C. – The CarolinaEast Health System  Auxiliary is currently accepting scholarship applications from local high school seniors planning to pursue healthcare careers. The available $25,000.00 – being awarded through two $10,000.00 scholarships and five $1,000.00 grants – is made possible by the work of the generous men and women of the Auxiliary.

These individuals volunteer their time and talents in areas throughout the Medical Center organization assisting patients and staff.  They also own and operate Reflections Gift Shop and manage Connect America Med-Alert System that serves homebound patients throughout the region.  With the funds raised from these programs and various other innovative fundraisers throughout the year, this group provides financial support for patient care initiatives and specific gifts for special, selected projects and  has sponsored this annual scholarship program for area students pursuing a career in healthcare for over 30 years.

“The Auxiliary feels that helping to pave the way for these young scholars is essential to the future of health care in our region,” said Richard Soper, Scholarship Chairperson. “This program is certainly one of our most rewarding endeavors. The hope is for these intelligent, motivated students to one day become part of the CarolinaEast organization as medical professionals.”

To apply, graduating high school students must have been accepted to a community college or college/university with intended majors in healthcare careers.  Applications and scholarship requirements can be obtained from area high school counselors or through the CarolinaEast Medical Center website at www.carolinaeasthealth.com . The application deadline is Friday, March 31, 2017.
