City Selects New Assistant City Manager, Angel Wright-Lanier

(Fayetteville, N.C.) — The City of Fayetteville has selected Angel Wright-Lanier as its new Assistant City Manager. Wright-Lanier comes to America’s Hometown after serving in similar positions with the City of Goldsboro and Town of Mooresville. She was Assistant City Manager in Goldsboro from 2013 to 2015 and Deputy Town Manager in Mooresville from 2015 to present.

Throughout her 18-year career, Wright-Lanier has managed numerous departments, to include Planning, Human Resources, Information Technology, Facilities and Construction Management, Community Affairs, Inspections, Parks & Recreation, two performing arts theaters, the Charles Mack Citizen Center and the Mooresville Library. She also has extensive experience with developing and implementing a strategic plan.

In Mooresville, Wright-Lanier helped oversee a $110 million organization budget and 500 total employees, with a $20 million department budget and 120 employees falling under her direct leadership. While there, she led a community initiative to encourage women to walk to improve their health.

In Goldsboro, she worked with the Police Department to help educate young people on how to interact with police officers and was actively engaged with Seymour Johnson Air Force Base and the military community, serving on the Military Affairs Committee.

“Angel Wright-Lanier has the experience, knowledge and people skills to be the next Assistant City Manager for Fayetteville,” City Manager Doug Hewett said. “Her extensive background in managing a large variety of departments and interacting well with the public make her a good fit for the position and I’m excited to welcome her to our community.”

Wright-Lanier started her career as a Finance Department staff analyst with the City of Raleigh before being promoted to Intergovernmental Relations Manager in the state’s capital city.

She earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, a Master of Public Administration from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and a Master of Science in Management Information Systems from Strayer University. Wright-Lanier is currently earning a Doctor of Education doctoral degree in Leadership and Learning in Organizations from Vanderbilt University’s Peabody College of Education.
