Denise HaleDollars for Denise Thirteen year old Denise Hale was diagnosed with Leukemia in February 2009. In June of that same year she received a Bone Marrow Transplant at the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The donor was her six year old little sister, Janaya. Denise had to stay in isolation for 3 months at the Chapel Hill hospital,which is 2 hours away from their hometown, Wilmington.

After the excellent treatment she received from the doctors and staff at UNC, Denise returned home to Wilmington to live life as a normal teenage girl. A few months after her cancer treatment, Denise started having pains in her hip and difficulty walking. After a few visits to an orthopedic specialists, it was determined that steroids from the cancer treatment caused Denise’s hip joint lose blood supply and she will soon need a hip replacement. As if this is not enough for one person to go through, in February 2011 Denise started having severe headaches. MRI test showed that her Pituitary Gland was enlarged. Further test revealed that Leukemia had returned in her Central Nervous System. Another journey continues, let’s help Denise and her family to battle this terrible disease.
