Author Gives New Insight to Parenting After 4 Years in Prison

on 13 September 2013.

When Patrick McKnight was incarcerated in 2006, he soon began to realize the things in his outside life that he had taken for granted. Especially his relationship with his children. Stuck in a jail that didn’t allow visits from children under the age of eighteen, McKnight didn’t see his own for nearly three years. During his time, he wrote a book inspired by what he learned firsthand about parental love.

In his new book Daddy Loves You, McKnight talks about difficult, lesser explored aspects of parenting including dealing with an ex-spouse, forming a relationship with your child after a long absence in their life, and dealing with the question of how to financially ensure his or her future.

Major themes in the book include:

  • The importance of parents being involved in the lives of their children
  • How children consciously or unconsciously pick up on the habits of their parents
  • Pushing amicable relations between parents, even when they’re divorced
  • The extremes that people are capable of when it comes to providing for their family
  • Children as the future and the importance of helping them to grow

If you would like to receive a review copy of the book please let me know. McKnight is available for commentary and interviews. Looking forward to your reply.

Patrick McKnight is an author, filmmaker, actor, and screenwriter. He directed and starred in Frat House XO, winner of The New York International Independent Film & Video Festival in 2004. After this success, McKnight was sent to prison in 2006 for charges related to marijuana. During his time there he was inspired by a fellow inmate to write a book. That book is Daddy Loves You. He currently resides in Ft. Lauderdale, FL with his three children.
