The Piedmont Triad Airport Authority (PTAA or the “Authority”) will receive Statements of Qualifications from interested firms for the services described in this Request for Qualifications (RFQ).

It is likely that PTAA will then review the submittals received for this work and shortlist 3-5 firms. Interviews will be conducted with each of the shortlisted firms. The Authority will reimburse the shortlisted firms up to $2,000 in reasonable transportation expenses for travel to PTIA for the interview.

The Authority is seeking a Terminal Concepting, Programming, Planning and Design Consultant to evaluate the function and form of the current terminal building; to provide recommendations for physical and aesthetic improvements and modifications; and to provide overall concept, programming and preliminary design for modifications.

FIRMS READING THIS RFQ SHOULD NOT FEEL THAT THEY ARE IN A LESS COMPETITIVE POSITION IF THEY HAVE NOT BEEN ACTIVELY MARKETING THEIR SERVICES TO THE AUTHORITY.  The Authority has had no discussions whatsoever with any firm regarding this project.  There is no requirement that the selected firm be a local firm.  There is no requirement to have any history or background knowledge of the airport. This is a pure airport terminal planning/design effort and all firms qualified to provide such services will be equally considered.  The Authority hopes to solicit interest from as many firms as possible.

The current terminal opened in the early 1980’s and is a “U” shaped facility with a main terminal and two (2) concourses, “North” and “South”, each with independent checkpoints.  The concourses are not connected downstream of security. The North concourse was renovated and expanded in the mid 2000’s, for a total of 25 gates. Between 2012 and 2016, portions of the main terminal were updated.  The Authority is now interested in setting a course for both the short and long term of the terminal facilities, and is seeking these services in support of developing such a plan.

The successful proponent will demonstrate the following: Skill at identifying current needs as well as projecting future demands; the ability to program Airport Terminal Space in an efficient manner to meet those demands; skill to envision a striking, unique, and beautiful form that meets the functional need; and experience with the unique issues facing Small Hub Airports.

The scope of work will be developed in conjunction with the selected firm.  The scope will generally include, but will not be limited to the following: Inventory and assessment of current condition of facility; evaluation of projected future demand/capacity; programming of space needs; development of conceptual plans; and basic preliminary design.

Interested firms should submit six (6) copies of its Statements of Qualifications, in a sealed envelope clearly marked with the project name, on or before 11:00 A.M. EST, Friday, September 15, 2017 to PTAA, c/o Mr. Alex Rosser, P.E., Deputy Executive Director, 1000-A Ted Johnson Parkway, Greensboro, NC 27409.  All proposals received after the above date and time will not be considered and will be returned unopened.

PTAA reserves the right to waive any informalities or irregularities in any Statement of Qualifications, to accept or reject any Statement of Qualifications, or to reject all statements of qualifications, if determined to be in its best interest.

PTAA will not be providing site tours or preliminary design information at this time. PTAA will not conduct any meetings to discuss this project with individual firms. However, an informational meeting will be held at 2:00 P.M. EST, Wednesday, August 23, 2017.  WebEx participation instructions will be posted to the Piedmont Triad International Airport website under Airport Operations, which can be found at http://flyfrompti.com at least one week prior to the meeting.
