Marilyn Shannon is the founder of Dialogue\, Inc.\, her private coaching practice and the co-founder of WPN and the organizer for the Cary Chapter of Coffee and Contacts. Marilyn is a licensed  Heartmath® professional\, a group facilitator and has prese nted workshops nationally on the topics of leadership\, listening and comm unication skills. Marilyn had her own local talk show on NBC channel 17. M arilyn earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Visual and Performing Arts and Public Communications from Syracuse University. She went on to become a sa les and marketing professional\, in print\, TV\, and internet.  Marilyn o wned and operated a successful retail furniture business for 13 years and served for many years as a superior court mediator where she honed her exp ertise in conflict resolution.

WSPE (Women sharing\, praying and encouraging) will begin ou r monthly Women Fellowship on Friday Jan 18th 2013 at 7 PM in Raleigh NC. The objective is to teach Married and Single Women from all walks of life how to be the Woman that God has destined her to be\, to know her value an d worth and to be equipped with the knowledge\, wisdom and understanding o f God's word in every area of her life so she can be an effective Woman of God in the kingdom. This will be teaching sessions so there will be discu ssions\, questions and it will be very interactive. The Martin Luther Kin g Jr. Celebration Committee is proud to continue their work in the celebra tion and honor of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. While they have long had a wonderful parade commemorating his life\, legacy\, and birthda y\, they are now committed to extending that celebration into a week of mo tivational events to raise awareness and motivate the community. The actions of the Reverend Dr. Marti n Luther King Jr. (MLK)  brought about significant changes in the lives o f all  Americans. Therefore the MLK Celebration  Committee\, a subcommit tee under the African  American Heritage Foundation of Wilmington\,  Inc \, (AAHFW) representing the Greater  Wilmington area seek to pay homage t o an  American hero through educational seminars\,  religion events\, ar t and culture events\, displays  and social gatherings which enhance the quality  of life in our communities.

The AAHFW was founded to fill a void in our community. So sponsoring this week of events perfectly fits our mission and helps to build our capacity to do even more to addre ss and improve racial relations\, community and visibility of the positive achievements and contributions of African Americans throughout our histor y. We seek to incorporate health and wellness concerns in our annual celeb ration.

Wilmington is a particularly important place to fully c ommemorate the  work of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. because of the continu ing impact of the  1898 coup d’etat\, overthrowing an elected African A mericans government\,  which radically disenfranchised African Americans here. These actions and  inactions costed many their lives and many more their rightfully owned  land. In addition\, the heroic efforts of the Wil mington Ten\, who fought  tirelessly to desegregate the local schools\, m ust be remembered. A little  known fact is that Dr. King was due to arriv e in Wilmington\, NC but  postponed his arrival to assist striking sanita tion workers with their issue in  Memphis\, Tennessee where he met his un timely demise.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. is a well known and acce pted national hero\, and  his birthday is an opportunity to bring people together and help everyone  again understand the context and history surr ounding his life from the  perspective of Southeastern North Carolina. It is our hope to be able to build  from this week of events to other event s which allow us to more fully  commemorate additional important figures and events in African American

19th Annual Coming Together Conference. A conference to cele brate and renew our commitment to working together to improve the lives of children with special needs.  Our goal to help parents\, teachers and pr ofessionals to feel more confident and competent to parent or help childre n with special needs to reach their full potential.  One way we can do th at is to provide our community with the latest information about a variety of disability issues and presentations about strategies proven to work.
Keynote Speaker -Adrienne Ehlert Bashista is the co-editor of Ea sy to Love but Hard to Raise: Real Parents\, Challenging Kids\, True Stori es and is the founder of the blog and Facebook support group of the same n ame. She is a frequent contributor to ADDitude magazine and her next book\ , Easy to Love but Hard to Teach: Children with Invisible Special Needs an d School\, will be out next fall and she is also working on a book about h omeschooling children with special needs. She speaks about the stresses of parenting children with neuro-behavioral disorders and hopes to become a trainer on fetal alcohol spectrum disorder\, or FASD\, in the coming month s. She lives with her husband and two boys in a farmhouse in central North Carolina. 

Registration begins at 8 am with conference begin ning at 8:45 am.  Lunch of pizza and salad is provided.  Three sessions of break out workshops with a choice of ten each session.  Table displays for more information and opportunities to network with other parents and professionals.
