Save the Date for PUSH 2012 and Transfer Day!

North Carolina Central University’s Centennial Scholars Program/Africa n American Male Initiative invites you to save the date for the second ann ual Propelling Undergraduate Students Higher (PUSH) Symposium that has now been expanded to cover two days.  In addition\, transfer students intere sted in attending NCCU are invited to the pre-conference Transfer Day sess ions where they will learn more about what it takes to be an NCCU Eagle. T he Transfer Day will kick off on Friday\, Nov. 30\, at 10 a.m. and the PUS H Symposium will follow at noon and run through Saturday\, Dec. 1\, at 2 p .m.

The PUSH Symposium is aimed at minority males from high sch ools\, community colleges\, and student athletes from four-year universiti es. Details are still being finalized\, but the many concurrent sessions w ill feature relevant topics including:

Reshaping Professional Athlete Dreams
Living Away from Home
Self-Branding
Dress ing for Success
Transitions through College
Men’s Health
Embracing Diversity
Knowing Yourself
Transferring to a Four -Year Institution
Peer Pressure
Hip Hop in Higher Education

Financial Lite racy
Legal Rights
Domestic Violence Awareness

In ad dition\, admissions representatives from NCCU will accept applications and waive the application fee.

Detailed conference information wil l soon be available. Dinner on Friday\, and breakfast and lunch on Saturda y will be provided. There is no cost to attend\, but only the first 175 st udents and chaperones who register will be accepted. A waiting list will b e available to those who register after the limit is reached. Registration s must be completed at http://pushsymposium2012.eventbrite.com by November 18.

CSP has partnered with DoubleTree Suites by Hilton\, 2515 Meridian Pkwy.\, Durham\, NC (919-361-4660) to provide a special reduced r ate of $94 per suite for symposium attendees. The spacious suites can hold up to five guests and the hotel is only four miles from NCCU. There will be visitors from the North Pole and real snow on Main Street. Some of the featured activities will include:

* Refreshments
* Ch ildren's arts and crafts
* Visits with Santa and Mrs. Claus
