2nd Annual Brunswick Forest Veterinary Hospital Hound Hustle 10K, 5K & 1-mile Trot With Spot (7:40 AM - 12:40 PM)
The 2nd annual Brunswick Forest Veterinary Hospital Hound Hustle 10K, 5K & 1-mile Trot with Spot will be taking place on the smooth, flat and picturesque streets and paved running trails at Brunswick Forest. The 1-mile is primarily for runners and walkers with their pets and is an out and back starting 20 minutes before the 10K race so everyone can see you and your best 4-legged buddy strut your stuff. There will be prizes for the best dressed pet and the pet and owner who look the most alike!
The 10K is primarily for runners but we had one bird dog running with his owner last year and they took home an age group award! The 10K starts 5 minutes before the 5K so there will be little interaction possible with pooches in the longer distance race.
In the 5K there are lots of good "single" runners. All runners and walkers with dogs will be asked to start in the back of the pack to begin the race. Last year we had no issues and all dogs were well behaved as were their owners.
Brunswick Forest Vets will be offering microchip implantation for cost ($30 for the chip) so all race participants can take advantage of that great deal and make your 4-legged friend much easier to find and identify in case he (or you) get lost. There will also be great local pet related businesses displaying their goods and services for you to see and sample. We'll have some nice prizes to give away after the race for our sponsors and from 5 Star Race Productions (5SRP).
We hope to see you on April 7th is beautiful Brunswick Forest, 6 miles south of Wilmington.
No dog, no problem!
The race benefits Brunswick County Animal Services offering adoption services to great potential owners.

Mary Chambers, my grandmother, succumbed to cancer in 1996. In memory of her strength and courage I chose to fuel the energy of her great legacy by committing to give back to those who are struggling with this debilitating illness. Just as it has touched so many other households, cancer has affected the lives of those in my family as well. Years ago, my cousin was diagnosed with cancer during her pregnancy. Being given the option of either aborting the baby to receive chemotherapy or going through the pregnancy with cancer, she chose to have the child and receive treatment after birth. Today, she is able to witness the joy of a beautiful child while simultaneously celebrating a cancer-free life. Stories like these and many that I have heard from countless others shed light upon the need for unification in fighting toward a cure and lightening the load of those seeking to receive the best of care during treatment.

if you have any questions!
What is a food swap?
A food swap is a recurring event where members of a community share homemade, homegrown, or foraged foods with each other. Swaps allow direct trades to take place between attendees, e.g., a loaf of bread for a jar of pickles or a half-dozen backyard eggs. No cash is exchanged, and no goods are sold. Diversify your pantry and go home happy and inspired while meeting your friends and neighbors!
Who can participate?
We welcome everyone, as long as you bring something you made, grew, or foraged yourself!
Where is it held?
Port City Swappers meet at 317 Castle Street.
What do people bring?
All swap items must be homemade, homegrown, or foraged by you. Think baked goods, jam, pickles, beer, spreads, honey, vinegar, mead, granola, pasta, fruits, vegetables, herbs, spices, homemade sausages, backyard eggs … you name it! Bring as little or as much as you like. You can bring a bunch of one thing or multiples of a few different things. The possibilities are endless! Keep in mind that swappers will be examining and picking up your goods, so be sure to package them in a way that protects the food and makes it clear the amounts you want to swap. We encourage reusable, earth-friendly packaging whenever possible. If possible, you should also bring samples for others to try.
What happens during the swap?
Our swaps last about 2 hours and are held in a silent auction style.
• The first 30 minutes of the swap are devoted to sign-in, set-up, and greetings. Swappers fill out name tags and swap sheets (a sheet for each type of item with lines under it for other swappers to list what they would offer) and set up their wares on the tables.
• The next 30 minutes to 1 hour are for everyone to walk around, examine, and sample items from the other swappers. Swappers will write their names and items they brought on the sheets for any items they would like to take home.
• The final 30 minutes are when all the swapping actually happens. Everyone goes back to his or her original sheets of paper, looks at the offers, finds interested offerers via their name tags, and swaps. These offers are just a starting point for conversation; there’s no guarantee you will get what you “bid” for and, likewise, you are under no obligation to trade with the people who wrote on your paper. If it sounds intimidating, don’t worry, our swappers are quite friendly and it’s all done in the spirit of fun.
How much does the Food Swap cost?
NOTHING! Port City Swappers is free to all who attend.
Do I have to swap?
Not necessarily. If nothing tickles your fancy, you are free to gift your items to a participant without exchanging for something.
The Honor Code
All swap participants adhere to an honor code of using the highest cleanliness standards in their own kitchens and gardens to prepare their swap items. Swap participants must agree to the following terms before registering:
• By participating in this event, you are acknowledging that the items being shared are not necessarily prepared in commercial kitchens or spaces inspected by any government agency.
• By participating in this event, you are also acknowledging that you will use the highest standards of safety and cleanliness in food preparation.
• By participating in this event, you assume all liability; specifically, you agree to not hold liable food swap hosts, swap venue owners/providers, or other swap participants.
