Northern Wake Relay for Life is seeking walkers, cancer Survivors, caregivers, community leaders and others interested in raising cancer awareness for its 2012 Relay For Life event taking place on June 8-9, 2012, on the grounds of Richland Creek Community Church, 3229 Burlington Mills Road, Wake Forest. The opening ceremonies begin at 7 p.m. and teams will start walking at 7:30 p.m. after cancer Survivors kick off the event with the Victory Lap. Because cancer never sleeps, Relay For Life is an overnight event. Participants do not have to walk all night, but each team is asked to have a representative on the track at all times for the duration of the event. Food, games and activities including several bands, cornhole tournaments, and kids’ inflatables will be provided all night for entertainment and fundraising opportunities. Relay For Life brings together friends, families, businesses, hospitals, schools, faith-based groups and communities to celebrate the lives of cancer Survivors, remember those we have lost and commit to fighting back against the disease. The theme of this year’s event is One Community. One Fight. Who’s Your One? and reminds participants why they are walking and raising funds. Volunteers from Northern Wake County, including the towns of North Raleigh, Rolesville, Wake Forest and Youngsville, are needed to serve as team captains and team members for the event. Participants can join one of the current teams listed at www.northernwakerelay.com or form their own. Team captain and participant meetings are being held once a month leading up to the June event. The next meeting will take place at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday, March 6 in the Mill Room at The Factory, 1839 South Main Street, Wake Forest. Additional meetings will be held on April 10 and May 1 at the same time and place. The Survivor Dinner will be held on Wednesday, June 6 at Richland Creek Community Church. Anyone interested in becoming a team captain, volunteer or participant should email Brian Pate,
