Film Screenings @ the Museum Free with Membership or Museum Admission Films are held in the Museum’s East Wing Theatre/Classroom Half Past Autumn NOVEMBER 10 + 11 We celebrate the centennial of the artist, filmmaker, writer, musician and activist Gordon Parks (November 30, 2012 – March 7, 2006) by screening this biographical film which explores Park’s prodigious artistic output. Parks began his career as a Farm Security Administration (FSA) photographer, where he created one of his best known pieces, American Gothic, Washington, D.C. and was the first African American to work at Life magazine as a photographer. His semi-autobiographical novel, The Learning Tree became the first Hollywood film directed by an African American (Parks) is included in the Library of Congress. In1971, his best-known film, film Shaft ushered in the Blaxploitation era. Films are held in the Museum’s East Wing Theatre/Classroom and are Free with Membership or Museum Admission.
