  all levels of skill! A rare opportunity to compete at an event where mast
 er-level chess players will be competing simultaneously is coming to the P
 iedmont Triad. From Aug. 29- Sept. 3\, High Point University will be spons
 oring three separate chess events. <br /><br />One of these\, the 2012 Nor
 th Carolina Open\, currently is registering players of all levels to compe
 te against other chess enthusiasts for cash prizes totaling $13\,000.  Th
 e Open will take place Aug. 31-Sept. 2 and will be held at the Embassy Sui
 tes\, 204 Centrepoint Drive in Greensboro. To learn more about the tournam

 tml</a><br /><br />For those who wish to observe rather than participate\,
  two opportunities are available during this unprecedented chess weekend. 
 <br /><br />The U.S. Masters Chess Tournament\, also being staged at the E
 mbassy Suites\, is the first of its kind for the Triad.  This tournament 
 will host some of the best competitors in the world as they compete for th
 e title of International Chess Master or International Grand Master.  The
  first game will begin at 7:30 p.m. Thursday evening\, August 30\, and the
  competition will continue with two games each day through Monday\, Septem
 ber 3. <br />The tournament hours will begin at approximately 10:30 am and
  last as late as midnight\, depending upon the pace of play. <br /><br />A
 dditionally\, High Point University will kick off the long weekend by hold
 ing a “chess simultaneous” event featuring World Chess Grandmaster Gio
 rgi Magvelashvili of the Republic of Georgia. This event will take place a
 t 7 p.m. Wednesday\, Aug. 29\, on the university’s campus in the Plato W
 ilson School of Commerce. Chessboards will be set up so that Magvelashvili
  can compete against 20 different players at the same time. The chess simu
 ltaneous is fast-moving and one of the best events to observe for aspiring
  young chess players. <br /><br />All three events are open to the public
