Displaced Homemakers Program Conference 2012
Building Self-Sufficiency … Improving Lives Across N.C.
Winston Salem, NC
September 20, 2012
8:30am – 4:00pm

RALEIGH – The N.C. Council for Women (CFW) has scheduled a Displaced Homemakers (DH) Conference for grantees, DH program coordinators, volunteers and collaborative partners. It will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 20 at Senior Services Center, 2895 Shorefair Drive in Winston Salem.

The conference theme is “Building Self Sufficiency ... Improving Lives Across North Carolina.” The event is free to eligible participants, including members of the CFW board, who will conduct their regular quarterly meeting from 1:15 to 3:30 p.m. as part of the event.
Other scheduled speakers include Rep. Alma Adams of Greensboro, whose topic is Advocacy in Today’s Political Climate, and CFW Executive Director Beth Briggs, who will present on the highly anticipated 2012 Status of Women in North Carolina report.
A preliminary fact sheet, Key Findings on the Economic Status of Women in North Carolina, identifies both progress and continued challenges for women in relation to unemployment; education, earnings, and the gender wage gap; and economic security and poverty. The full report is slated for October release.

The deadline to register is Sept. 14. Additional agenda topics include Effective Practices; Sustaining Your Program in Today’s Challenging Economy; Tracking Outcomes and Measuring Real Progress; Serving Special Needs Clients, and other hands-on workshops.
