The Cucalorus Film Festival was
founded in 1994. At the inaugural event\, crowds wrapped around the bloc
k to see 16 local films screening at a restaurant by the Cape Fear River.
These days Cucalorus Film Festival takes place every November in historic
Wilmington\, NC screening over 100 independent and international films in
venues like the recently restored Thalian Hall\, as well as City Stage The
ater\, TheatreNOW\, Jengo's Playhouse\, and The Soapbox. In 2009 MovieMa
ker Magazine recognized it as one of the '25 Coolest Film Festivals' and b
y the Brooks Institute as one of the 'Top Ten Film Festivals'. The festi

o slavery. It doesn't just happen in other countries\, it doesn't just h
appen in other cultures\, and it doesn't just happen to other people. Mo
dern day slavery is a real\, growing\, and local industry. People are be
ing bought\, sold\, and forced to do unspeakable things for an unspeakable
price. People are being abused\, broken\, and traded in our own backyar
ds. Slavery happens in our country\, in our neighborhoods\, and we can't
turn a blind eye to it. We have to educate ourselves\, we have to be a
voice\, and we have to do something.
One person can make a diff
erence. One step\, one action at a time is what it takes to fight the ba
ttle against human trafficking. If you have been wondering where to star
t\, start here! Life Community Church will be hosting a Women's Event to
raise funds to support the Centre of Redemption\, which provides a better
opportunity of life to female survivors of sex trafficking\, by offering
safe long-term housing\, education\, counseling and life skills aiding in
their integration to independence.

A Purpose\, will be held on Friday\, November 16\, from 7:00 - 9:00pm at L
ife Community Church (the church in the mall!). We will provide supplies
and instruction for several different craft projects that we have found o
n Pinterest (for example\, jewelry making) which will then be sold online.
All proceeds from the sales will go directly to support the COR.
The cost for this event is $5.00\, and tickets can be purchased at t
