The City of Virginia Beach, VA is recruiting for a dynamic, innovative, and experienced leader for the position of Chief Information Officer (CIO).

The CIO leads the department of IT and this position is an opportunity to provide the visionary and strategic leadership necessary to establish an overall technology strategy for the largest city in Virginia and one of the most popular resort destinations in the country. The CIO leads the development and implementation of goals and objectives for all department of Information Technology operations, projects and programs to meet the short and long-range technology and business goals of the City organization.

The successful candidate will have exceptional skills in the areas of communication, leadership, entrepreneurship, long range planning and sustainable business practices.  The CIO must clearly be a leader who can foster cooperation between various individuals and groups while taking an active leadership role in furthering the City’s strategic initiatives.  The CIO provides the strategic direction to transform technology into the future and enable City businesses to maximize their efficiency and effectiveness, inform the community, and improve and promote quality of life via specific business divisions including, but not limited to: applications development and support, information technology systems development and support, geospatial information services, printing services, mail distribution, telecommunications, and technology services management.  The CIO uses feedback and input from throughout the organization and provides recommendations to the City Manager, or designee, on communications and information technology program/policy innovations, changes, and enhancements; leads organizational initiatives and assignments to support and address communications and information technology common issues; serves on teams and committees, and partners with various departments and agencies for effective results; serves in other capacities in support of organizational strategies; and represents the City on technology-related issues with external agencies and the media.
