Sealed proposals will be received by the Caldwell County Schools Board of Education until 2:00 PM on Tuesday December 4, 2018, at the District Office located at 1914 Hickory Boulevard, SW, Lenoir, NC 28645, and thereafter publicly opened and read aloud, to furnish all materials and labor for RENOVATION & ADDITIONS to the GRANITE FALLS MIDDLE SCHOOL, 90 North Main Street, Granite Falls, NC 28630-1419. Address Bids to the attention of Jeff Church, Ed. D, Associate Superintendent for Auxiliary Services.  Bids will not be accepted from contractors that are not prequalified.

Copies of plans, specifications, and contract documents will be available for inspection during business hours from October 22, 2018 until bids are opened at the following locations: District Office, 1914 Hickory Boulevard, SW, Lenoir, NC 28645. A $100.00 bid deposit is required to obtain a complete set of electronic PDF plans and specifications, made payable to McKissick Associates Architects.   The full deposit, less a $50.00 handling fee, will be refundable to contractors submitting a Bona Fide bid.

Paper copies of plans and specifications may be purchased from the Architect for an additional non- refundable fee of $300.00.

A brief description of work in the project follows:

The work of this project involves demolition of approximately 44,000 sf of existing building, partial demolition of other existing exterior and interior building elements, construction of a new approximately 53,900 sf three-story wing and partial renovation of the remaining approximately 46,600 sf of existing facilities to increase building capacity, achieve ADA accessibility and improve building function. The site work will include storm water control, rain garden, paving, utility modifications, sidewalks, retaining wall, lighting, signage, landscaping and playfields. The historic 1935 portion of the building will be renovated to include a knowledge commons, tech maker space and other collaboration spaces. The kitchen will be renovated with upgraded food service equipment and new loading dock. Existing roofs will be upgraded for an extended life and new entry canopies will be added. The new addition will be situated behind the original 1935 building and is designed to house classrooms, science labs, school office and mechanical service spaces. Mechanical, Plumbing and Electrical work includes new systems for the addition and renovated areas, including the detached historic gym building.  The building will be divided into fire zones, including limited sprinklered areas.

A pre bid conference will be held at the site at 10:00 AM on Friday November 9, 2018. Attendees shall meet at the Granite Falls Middle School Office. All potential bidders are strongly encouraged attend, examine the existing conditions and to discuss particular details of the project.

A 5% Bid Bond is required for this project. Performance and Labor and Material Payment Bonds will be required. No bid may be withdrawn after the scheduled closing time for the receipt of bids for a period of 60 days.

Minority businesses are encouraged to submit bids for this project. The Board of Education awards public contracts without regard to race, religion, color, creed, national origin, sex, age or handicapped condition as defined by North Carolina General Statutes, Section 168A-3.

The appropriate forms from the section entitled 00 43 39 Minority Business Participation must be submitted with each bid to show good faith efforts to obtain Minority and Women Owned Business Enterprise participation.

The Caldwell County Schools Board of Education reserves the right to reject any or all bids presented and to waive any informalities and irregularities.
