University of North Carolina Wilmington Housing Renovations Phases 1 and 2

Balfour Beatty is requesting for principal trade and specialty contractors to submit bids for the furnishing of labor, material, and equipment for the University of North Carolina Wilmington Housing Renovations Phases 1 and 2. Balfour Beatty has been selected as the Construction Manager at Risk for the project and will receive sealed bid proposals from pre-qualified bidders only, and will contract with the principal and specialty contractors for the execution of the work.

The Housing Renovations Phases 1 and 2, consists of a nearly complete Mechanical demolition and replacement of HVAC equipment, piping, and controls for three dormitories (Belk, Graham, and Hewlett Halls). Each dormitory is four stories and is approximately 41,000 sq. ft. The project will require trade subcontractors for the following bid packages: General Trades/Demo/Arch. Finishes; Site Grading/Utilities/Fencing; Fire Protection; Mechanical; HVAC Controls; Electric; Plumbing; and Final Cleaning.

The bid due date is January 30, 2018 at 2:00 pm. The bids will be opened immediately following at UNCW’s Facilities Office, Conference Room 1, located at 5150 Lionfish Way. Submittals for pre-qualification forms may be hand delivered, mailed, faxed, or submitted electronically. Pre- qualifications are due Tuesday, January 23rd. Balfour Beatty reserves the right to accept additional prequalification applications up to 7 days prior to bid opening. The CM and Owner reserve the right to reject any and all Pre-qualifications. Contracting method will be through Competitive Public Bid in accordance with Chapter 143 of the NC General Statues. A refundable plan deposit of one hundred fifty dollars ($150.00) in cash, check payable to Accent Imaging, or credit card is required for each set. Contractor will be required to pay for all shipping. Electronic files are also available upon request to Colby Willis.

Contractors interested in bidding are required to attend the open mandatory pre-bid and preferred brand alternates meeting, which will be held for all interested bidders on 1/16/18 from 4:00-5:00 PM in the Madeline Suites meeting room on UNCW’s campus.  The meeting will address project specific questions, issues, bidding procedures and bid forms. In accordance with GS 133-3 and SCO procedures, this meeting will identify the following preferred brand items, which are being considered as alternates by the owner for this project:

  • Water Meters by Neptune
  • Gas Meters by Onicon
  • Campus Energy Management Control System

o   First Tier: Provide Tridium Niagara N4 with Energy Analytics software.
o   Second Tier: Provide Lon Network with LonWorks certified controllers.

All Bidders are strongly encouraged to include opportunities for HUB participation wherever possible in their respective bid submission. Historically Underutilized Businesses is a part of this contract and must comply with the State of North Carolina General Statues. A HUB outreach meeting will be held following the pre-bid meeting on 1/16/18 at 5:00 pm in the Madeline Suites meeting room on UNCW’s campus.  All parties are encouraged to stay for both meetings.
