  • Evaluate the capabilities of minority and women-owned businesses
  • Include the participation of certified minority and women-owned businesses in the procurement process and our business plans
  • Extend our commitment and support through outreach activities

Supplier diversity policy statement

Progress Energy recognizes the importance of supplier diversity in all aspects of our business and procurement practices. Through our Supplier Diversity & Business Development Program, we are committed to the development, utilization and growth of minority-owned businesses, women-owned businesses and small businesses.

The program’s objectives are to:

  • Create a quality process for all parties – including a plan of action to monitor, achieve, and report activities.
  • Develop new, creative and innovative means to utilize minority-owned businesses, women-owned businesses and small businesses.
  • Establish cost-effective relationships – ensuring that Progress Energy realizes the benefits of competitive pricing and quality products and services.

The Supplier Diversity and Business Development Program will be the responsibility of Progress Energy’s executive management. The program will be administered by the manager of Supplier Diversity and Business Development in the Corporate Services Department.

Strengthening and utilizing minority-owned businesses, women-owned businesses and small businesses contributes to the economic growth and expansion of the communities we serve. Therefore, it is Progress Energy’s policy to offer these businesses the opportunity to compete on an equal basis. In addition, our company will assist in developing and strengthening business relationships with minority-owned businesses, women-owned businesses and small businesses. This will be accomplished by maintaining outreach efforts to seek, identify and encourage participation in our procurement processes, facilitation of matchmaker meetings, increasing competitive business opportunities/utilization and informing these businesses of our business/procurement processes.

Workforce diversity at Progress Energy

The diversity present across Progress Energy’s service territory broadens every day.

Progress Energy recognizes this change and we are implementing programs that will help us better serve all of our customers. Like providing Spanish-speaking customer service representatives to improve communication and service. Or providing copies of electric bills in Braille and large print for our customers who are sight-impaired.

At Progress Energy, diversity is key – in our employee population, our customer base, our systems and our job opportunities. Our Corporate Diversity Council, headed by president and CEO Bob McGehee, provides the strategic direction for the company’s diversity initiative, and each business unit has its own council that brings the diversity initiative to all areas of the company.

Diversity at Progress Energy is about more than race, gender or age – it’s about the blending of unique knowledge, individual interpretation, singular experiences and personal points of view. Diversity shapes our thinking, making us flexible and open to new ideas. We foster an environment that values those differences, and we are committed to recognizing, embracing and leveraging diversity to maximize employee potential, customer satisfaction and business success.

These efforts and others illustrate our commitment to quality service for all of our customers.
