Sasha Obama, the former president’s younger daughter, graduated from high school on Sunday with her parents, Barack and Michelle Obama, and her sister Malia in attendance, according to US Weekly,  AOL.com and The Washington Examiner.

Her school, Sidwell Friends School in Washington, D.C., posted a picture of her graduating class on Instagram and Facebook, showing Sasha, 18, in the second row from the back, fourth from the left.

The Instagram post featured a quote from the 2019 commencement speaker, Sheila Johnson, plus congratulations.

“Life has never been about you or about me. Life and all that matters within it has always been about us.

“Congratulations to the Class of 2019! We can’t wait to see the great things you will do!”

The Obamas’ post-White House office in Washington did not respond to a message from USA TODAY seeking comment.

There were no media pictures of the event although other attendees apparently posted pictures on Instagram, which later disappeared.

The Obamas resisted talking about either of their daughters during their eight years in the White House, and have continued that practice since they left in 2017.

Traditionally, the media avoid photographing White House children who are under age 18 unless they are in public with their parents. As a result, there have not been many “authorized” pictures of either Obama daughter in recent years. (A high school graduation is considered a “private” event.)

But that hasn’t stopped “unauthorized” pictures from going viral, including last month when Sasha attended her senior prom.

After leaving the White House, the Obamas moved into a house in Washington so that Sasha could finish high school at Sidwell, the private Quaker-run school that Malia, 20, also attended, along with other children of prominent Washingtonians over the years, including Chelsea Clinton.

According to reports, Sasha is headed to the University of Michigan in the fall. Malia, who turns 21 on July 4, is to start her third year at Harvard in the fall. 

Sasha turned 18 on Monday.

Obama’s vice president, Joe Biden, now a 2020 Democratic presidential candidate, and his wife, Jill, also were there to see their granddaughter Maisy graduate, according to an Instagram post.

“Jill and I were so thrilled to be there today to watch our amazing granddaughter Maisy graduate from high school. Maisy, you make us so proud and we can’t wait to see what you do next with your talent, smarts, dedication and kindness. The future is yours, and Nana and Pop will always be right behind you,” the caption next to the picture read.

Since leaving the White House, the former president and former first lady have launched a production company that has announced partnerships with Netflix to produce an eclectic mix of films, TV series, documentaries and children’s programming, and another team effort with Spotify to produce exclusive podcasts.

In addition, both got book deals, reported to be worth a total of $60 million. Barack Obama is finishing up his; it’s due out in 2020.

Michelle Obama’s memoir, “Becoming,” released last year, has been a massive hit as one of the fastest-selling nonfiction books in history.
