Singer Chaka Khan Cancels Show — Checks Into Rehab for Pain Killer Addiction

by 07/15/2016

Just two days before she was set to perform at the California State Fair, 63-year old singer Chaka Khan reportedly canceled her performance, and announced that she will be entering rehab to address her addiction to prescription pain killers. The Grammy Award winning singer has reportedly struggled with the addition for quite some time.

Back in 2013, she released a statement saying, “The battle of addiction is a serious and long process, which is why I chose to address my use of prescription medications – which came about as a result of the knee surgery I had a few years ago.”

She added, “When and if necessary, I will seek alternative methods and traditional treatment to stay ahead of any potential problem. So many are not here today, and have lost this battle with addiction. Because these medications are legal, their abuse is often unknown – until it’s too late. If not handled they are a silent killer.”

In the 1970’s and 1980’s, Khan, like many other celebrities also suffered from addictions to cocaine, heroin, and excessive alcohol. She was, however, able to become sober and drug-free in 2005 after seeking professional help.

Khan is one of many celebrities that have had this potentially deadly problem. Others included Michael Jackson, Prince, Whitney Houston, and Elvis – all of who unfortunately died as a result of an addiction to some type of prescription medicine.

Widely known as the Queen of Funk, Khan has won ten Grammys and has sold an estimated 70 million records worldwide. She also ironically had a hit song in 1984 produced by Prince called “I Feel For You”. That song is still a hit today on radio stations that play music from the 80’s. •
