Take Action Now: Defending the DREAMers

by 09/06/2017

It has been less than 24 hours since the announcement by the Trump administration that the President will end DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) – a program that protected 800,000 young immigrants from deportation and provided them with work permits. In North Carolina alone, this will impact more than 27,000 individuals and their families.

The big question is “What can I do right now.” The answer, is fight like hell. Here’s a quick action list of what you can do today, tomorrow, and into the coming weeks to push back against this bigoted and destructive action:

1.      TODAY, and over the next several days, people all over the country are taking to the streets to #DefendDACA. Click here to find an emergency rally near you.

2.     Then call your representatives in Congress to demand they enact a permanent solution for Dreamers and their families, starting NOW by passing the Dream Act of 2017. Call the Capitol Switchboard at 202-224-3121 to connect to your Senators and House representative

3.     Please help elevate the voices of DACAmented youth by sharing their stories on Facebook and Twitter, using the hashtags #DefendDACA and #HereToStay.

Trump launched his campaign with racist, anti-immigrant scapegoating. He embraced white supremacists in Charlottesville. At every turn, he has sought to terrorize and criminalize Black and Brown communities. Now Trump has eliminated DACA, subjecting almost a million immigrant youth to being rounded up and deported.

We must take a stand. When Trump issued his Muslim ban in January, people of all races, religions, and nationalities turned out in force at airports to demand we let them in. We must show the same outrage and solidarity today.
