Warsaw Mayoral Election: A.J. Connors Has Thrown His Hat in the Ring

A. J. Connors

After years of sitting on the political sidelines, local pastor and community leader, A.J. Connors has thrown his hat in the ring and now seeks to become Mayor of the Town of Warsaw.  His opponent is present Mayor Russell Eason.

After thinking and praying about becoming an elected official, Pastor Connors decided that the time was right for him to step into politics.

Pastor Connors is the moderator of the Kenansville Eastern Missionary Baptist Association (KEMBA), the 48-member church association headquartered in Warsaw.

Reverend Connors was born and reared in Sampson County, a neighboring county to Duplin, and since 2004 has pastored Friendship Missionary Baptist Church in Pender, another neighboring county.  In 2009, he was awarded his Doctorate in Sacred Religious Sciences from the School of Theology in Milford, Illinois.

Many churches and leaders have different philosophies when it comes to their involvement in politics.  Dr. Connors referred me to other church leaders that he held in very high regard and that serve or have served in elected offices.

Under Dr. Connor’s leadership, KEMBA is promoting Internet access and websites for all member churches.  When exploring issues of social justice with Dr. Connors I found that he had very well-founded ideas of the strengths and weaknesses in our communities and felt that he could help address such issues.

He indicated that one of his greatest disappointments is the fact that there are too few job opportunities available for Duplin County students that have stayed in school, received college degrees and had to move to other locales for suitable employment.  He also stressed the importance of church leaders being aware and involved in the activities of public bodies that impact the lives of their communities.

Dr. Connors summed up his life’s philosophy in the following message:  “Stand by the word of God; Live by the word of God; and love one another as our Lord loves us.  If you can help your brothers or sisters, then do so.”

From discussions that I have had with other Duplin County leaders it is very clear that Dr. Connors is constantly sought out for involvement and leadership in community activities.  For further information contact the Committee to Elect A.J. Connors 206 N. Front St.  PO Box 586, Warsaw, NC 28398.
