“Building Homes With a Heart” Missions Homes, a Ministry of Joel 2 Missions

by 07/01/2016

WILMINGTON, N.C. Joel 2 Missions is a new 501©3 approved ministry in Wilmington. The Founding Director, Paula Millsaps, moved here with her two children almost two years ago after serving for years in many outreach capacities throughout the faith community and especially through her home church, Global River. Her heart is to bring healing and wholeness to all who are hurt and broken by sharing the truth of the love of Christ and teaching how to walk in His ways. This heart developed from walking through some very dark places of her own and being delivered and healed through an encounter with Jesus and by learning to apply the truths found in the Word of God. The story of the redemptive power of Christ in her life was just released in book stores nationwide. It is called “This Is My Story” and is a detailed account of some of the realities of her struggles. Her own journey through inner healing and counseling led her to desire training in inner healing and deliverance work, to become a Certified Peer Support Specialist, and to finish her Bachelor’s degree and then pursue a Master’s in Pastoral Counseling. After intense training and serving in inner healing ministry at both Global River Church and the Wilmington Healing Center, Sister Paula was given the approval and support of her senior pastor, Tom Hauser, to step out on the water and begin to build Joel 2 Missions. In 2016, the ministry was officially incorporated and granted fully approved tax exempt status.

Joel 2 Missions currently offers ministerial counseling, inner healing prayer, and mentorship for women from various backgrounds. We have done two teaching series this year; “Walk It Out and Spiritual Warfare Basic Training”; and will begin holding weekly meetings at the One In Christ Center at Seagate Community Chapel, 5823 Oleander Dr., Wilmington, NC 28403 on Thursday, July 21 from 6pm-9pm. God has been blessing all that we put our hands to in this ministry. We are seeing women get healed and come off of disability and go back to grad school, women coming off of psychotropic drugs as we counsel and work with them and their doctors, people learning how to pray more effectively so as to see answers almost immediately, and much more!

And now, thanks to a generous donor who has given us a home to use, we will be opening our first long-term transitional home in September of 2016, known as Missions Homes. This first home will house six survivors of domestic violence and other abuses, and is the only program of its kind as we will allow them to stay for up to five years depending on the need of the individual resident. It will also promote healing and wholeness through biblical discipleship, life skills training, and on-site counseling programs. Our goal is for all services to be free to residents as the number one reason the abused return to their abusers is financial hardship. One more reason that women go back into abusive relationships is because they have not had time to fully heal and change the mindsets that predispose them to be attracted to men who have the propensity for abuse. We hope to change all of that by extending the time limits to include enough time to be fully educated, completely healed, and fully capable of even making disciples of Christ. Another goal is to eventually be able to house women and children, pregnant women, and other segments of the population. Our ultimate vision is to also have separate properties established to help rehabilitate the abusers as well. Imagine us being able to help the abused and the abuser be made whole, reconciled back to God and then to each other! All things are possible to them that believe!
