Historic Thousands That Gathered in Raleigh, Despite the Rain

by 02/12/2018

Dear North Carolina NAACP Members, Partners, and Friends,

Thank you for your commitment to come long distances into the dreary morning rain.  I want to express my personal gratitude to each of you.

Every media report highlighted the Historic Thousands that gathered, despite the rain. Many reporters and editors, who used to highlight the laundry list of issues we raised, have begun to grasp that the struggle against racism and other forms of discrimination, is at the heart of our purpose and message. All media and objective observers have been amazed about the number of youth, the number of women, the number of union members, and the number of churches who have decided to throw their considerable weight into the vision and policies of the Peoples Coalition.

We encourage you to make HKonJ, February 2019, a magnificent celebration. It will be a short three months after we have carried out Saturday’s purpose: Taking the Resistance to the Ballot Box in November 2018!

Yesterday’s delegation of resisters shall come to recognize we have a collective soul that will not perish.  A soul that will rise in triumph over every obstacle cast in our path

In the Struggle for Justice,

Rev. Dr. T. Anthony Spearman,
President, North Carolina NAACP
Dr. Terrance Ruth,
Executive Director, North Carolina NAACP
