Marriott’s Commitment to Global Diversity

We were the first worldwide hospitality company to have established a formal supplier diversity program. In 2003 alone, Marriott spent over $150 million with minority-owned US businesses.
MARRIOTT INTERNATIONAL: SPIRIT TO SERVE OUR DIVERSE WORLD
As a part of our ongoing commitment we require our national vendors to work with minority- and women-owned businesses as well. The 2nd-Tier Program has increased our supplier diversity spending by an additional $50 million.
At Marriott International, we have experienced the benefits that come from working with locally owned businesses in the communities in which we operate. We know how hard it can be for a small business with a good idea to find the right door to knock on, especially when trying to establish a relationship with a worldwide company like ours. Marriott’s Supplier Diversity Program was established to facilitate this process and make it easier for us to find one another. Once that is accomplished, we will assess each company’s products and services with our current and future needs, and register this information in our Supplier Diversity Database.Some of the products and services frequently purchased or contracted include:
• Construction
• Cleaning and Maintenance Services (e.g., carpet cleaning, windows, janitorial, hood cleaning, etc.)
• Dry Cleaning
• Florist, Fresh Flowers
• Food & Beverages
• Interior Design Services
• Landscaping
• Marketing & Advertising
• Waste Removal
We evaluate every company on the basis of meeting the following requirements:
• Be certified as a minority- or women-owned business
• Have a minimum 2-year business history
• Meet or exceed our high standards of quality
• Provide excellent service
• Offer competitive pricing
• Provide value-added products or services
• Meet our insurance and indemnification requirements
• Can provide on-time deliveries
• Food-manufacturers or distributors must be Quality Assurance inspected by an approved third party
• Hospitality references a plus
Realistically, we are not able to do business with every company that contacts us. But we welcome the opportunity to build strong, rewarding relationships with high-quality, diverse suppliers and service providers in our communities.
