Minority Business Owners Expand Cupcake Business Via Local Farmers Market

Icing on the Kake by Khayla is now providing gourmet cupcakes each and every weekend at the Yellow Green Farmers Market in Hollywood, Florida. Owners Khayla and Ty Stanley started Icing on the Kake by Khayla in January 2011 as a made-to-order, gourmet cupcake and special order cake catering business for parties and events. Through word-of-mouth referrals and a loyal customer base, Icing on the Kake by Khayla is rapidly growing.

Since its inception, Icing on the Kake by Khayla has catered various private parties, provided cakes for a local restaurant and catered events for various for-profit and not-for-profit organizations. Like most start-ups and small businesses, operating capital is the primary obstacle for getting the business up and running. The emergence of Farmers Markets has provided a venue for entrepreneurs to launch their businesses while keeping costs minimal.

Cupcakes have become the trend throughout South Florida. Icing on the Kake by Khayla prides itself on creating cupcakes that truly captivate the palate. 

“Our name says it all. Our mission is to provide a great tasting cake accompanied with a delicious icing,” says Khayla Stanley. Icing on the Kake by Khayla is best known for providing moist, flavorful cakes and cupcakes topped with a generous amount of sweet decadent icing. “Our emphasis is placed on flavor instead of having a really good looking cupcake that just tastes average,” says Khayla Stanley.

The cupcakes come in a variety of modern flavors; however the most popular is the Southern Red Velvet.
