David Pickett of Shallotte NC will be showcasing his photography from September 1st through September 30th, 2021, at the library in North Myrtle Beach, SC. The newly developed exhibit called “WHEN LIGHT SPEAKS” will feature some never before seen prints and several Award-Winning prints.

Pickett’s pictorial art is comprised of black & white and color photography from film and digital cameras. His work is dominated by landscapes and waterscape images that capture the peace and hidden beauty of God’s Country that often goes un-noticed and un-appreciated. As a viewer, Pickett will lead you into images not only in NC, but also in SC, AL, GA, TN, and VA.

According to Pickett, “the exhibit is educational, uplifting and entertaining, and can be enjoyed by adults and students”. Four of his favorite pieces, “Lady Fishing”, Sacred Light”, Unhindered”, and “The Angel Walking Amongst the Rocks, Waters, and Dogwood Trees”, will be on display. Also, sprinkled in the exhibit will be a few photographs of historic structures that often go overlooked in their respected region.

Over the last several decades, Pickett has captured a collection of images that mirror the hunger and thirst of his heart and soul as a youngster and adult.  Today, he is quick to tell you that the Creator of the seen and unseen ordained him to capture the peace and beauty of Earth to share with others.

The “purpose seed” planted within him decades ago continues to flourish and display the true splendor of God’s Country. Accompanying the body of work is written commentary about the artist inner thoughts and emotions in regards to his pictorial art journey.

Pickett’s photographic journey started on the Christmas of 1974 as an 8th grader at Shallotte Middle School. His late mother, Annie Merle Marlow, brought him his first camera, a Polaroid. He said, “Beginning at age 9, I used to fall asleep clinging to the Sears & Roebuck’s catalog pages that displayed their 35 mm cameras and lenses”. “The dream of owning a 35mm camera came true during the Summer of 198l while a business major at UNC Asheville”.

And for persons who would like to know more about Pickett’s photography and art journey that started in 1968 as a 2nd grader in Mrs. Snowree Hewett’s class at the former Union High School, there will be printed highlights to accompany the 18-to-21-piece exhibit. Also, discover who has influenced him on his photographic walk. The “When Light Speaks” exhibit will honor those persons.
