The Historic Thousands on Jones Street (HKonJ) People’s Assembly Coalition is made up of the more than 125 North Carolina NAACP branches, youth councils, and college chapters from across the state and members of over 200 other social justice organizations.
In 11 days we will make history! We will continue to use our voice and demand a government that respects the dignity of all of its people and that governs for the good of the whole.

“Protect and expand voting rights, women’s rights, LGBTQ rights, immigrant rights, rights of the formerly incarcerated, and fundamental principle of equal protection under the law. North Carolina must expand and improve same day registration and public financing of elections. Protect and expand voting rights, women’s, LGBTQ, Immigrant, animal rights and equal protection rights under the law, while expanding youth and young adult civic engagement. Organize, Strengthen and Provide Funding For Our Civil Rights Enforcement Agencies and Statutes Now.”

❏ Implement automatic voter registration in order to increase the vote for 16 & 17 year olds.
❏ Defeat discriminatory proposals to mandate photo ID for all people exercising their right to vote.
❏ Expand early voting and same day registration hours and locations and improve oversight of voting rights protections.
❏ Limit voter challenges and impose consequences for unfounded voter challenges.
❏ Provide funding for Voter education (including civic engagement education, how government works, various branches and levels, etc)
❏ Expand public financing of statewide elections to additional offices and enact a pilot program for selected seats in the General Assembly.
❏ Oppose voter id, oppose ending judicial elections, and oppose the gerrymandering of election districts, whether for racial and/or partisan reasons.
❏ Monitor and be vocal at county election board meetings, advocate for expanded early voting including on Sundays.
❏ Humane and comprehensive immigration reform and action opposition of mass deportations including securing sanctuary cities.

❏ Establish and adequately fund a single, unified state Department of Human Rights that is empowered to investigate, conciliate and adjudicate cases of alleged discrimination.
