DEMOLITION & ABATEMENT

Blum Construction and W.C. Construction has been selected, in a Joint Venture, as the Construction Manager at Risk by Guilford County Schools and will receive and publicly open sealed proposals from prequalified bidders for the Early Demolition & Abatement Portion of the overall Swann Center 6-12 project, a 2022 bond project, in Greensboro, NC. Sealed bids will be received at the GCS Purchasing Office (714 Green Valley Road, Greensboro, NC 27408) by 12:00pm and will then be read aloud.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
This early phase of work of the overall Swann Center 6-12 project consists of asbestos abatement and lead removal for all six buildings based on findings from recent testing. Selective demolition in the main building consists of any demolition required to access hazardous materials. Complete demolition of the (5) five annex buildings will include building structure down to the slab which is to remain.

The bid opening process will be as follows:

• Tuesday, August 19, 2025: Bids will be received at the GCS Purchasing Office at 714 Green Valley Road, Greensboro, NC 27408 by 12:00 pm. All sealed bids will be required to be placed in a sealed envelope labeled with the required details listed in the bid manual.

• Receipt of bids will officially close at 12:00 pm – No bids or supplemental documents will be accepted after the bid closing.

• Bid opening will be one hour after closing time and will be publicly read out loud. The bid opening will be held both in person and via video conferencing. We will go systematically by bid package until all qualified bids are read.

RFI Questions are due Friday, August 8, 2025, at 4:00 pm.

RFI Questions regarding the bid should be in writing and emailed to [email protected] on the RFI submission form located in the bid manual and this project’s plan room; Questions submitted after the noted RFI deadline will not be answered.

Blum-WC Construction has a long-standing commitment to maximize minority and other HUB participation on all our projects, and we recognize the importance Guilford County Schools places on minority and HUB participation. There is an established 19% MWBE participation goal on this project. Historically underutilized and minority business participation is strongly encouraged. If MWBE subcontractors require assistance with bonding or payment terms, please let us know. Blum-WC Construction has the ability to create custom solutions to support a successful project outcome. Examples of Trade Partner Support include quick pay arrangements, modified insurance limits, bonding access or alternative bonding solutions, joint check agreements, disaggregation of bid packages, break out of materials and equipment to support cash flow.

No facsimile or email submissions are permitted. Sealed bids must be received prior to the stated bid receipt time at the location noted above. Sealed bids can be mailed but should arrive before 5:00pm on the day before the bid to Blum Construction Company, 2601 Pilgrim Court, Winston-Salem, NC 27106, Attention: Lauren Ashley. Blum-WC Construction will receive, open and read publicly all bids received.
