What I experienced as a young person growing up in Wilmington is still being felt by the youth of today in Wilmington, as well as across our Nation, city after city. That manufactured plague that held many of my friends and Family back is the same sort of plague that continues to wreak havoc on the African continent and diaspora. Indeed, there are subtle differences, yet the outcomes are the same. Unhealthy communities!

The health of our Local Community is and always has been connected with the health of our Global Community, full stop. That has to happen at home and abroad.

Cultivating a healthy Community is about more than the absence of physical sickness or just surviving. A healthy community begins with the wellness of mind, body, and spirit – a thriving presence!

Healthy Community collectively recognizes our inherent value – our gifts, talent, and time connected to the land associated with our collective history. Healthy Community understands the valued resources beneath our feet, wherever we are in the World, as people of African descent.

We cannot continue to allow exploitative measures by some to disconnect us from these facts.

Valuing the inherent resources locally, the talents and gifts of our friends and neighbors empower the Community when we organize. To effectively manage requires communication, strategic thinking, and strategic planning. At the core of this knowledge is collective energy, once harnessed, that will change our current conditions. It always has.

Our most outstanding education is not the information taught but what we do once we understand, driving one’s inner purpose and unleashing our gifts and talents. That purpose recognized, when applied to the needs of the Community, adds to the inherent value that leads to increased wealth.

Money as a tool indeed measures value and allows value to be stored. But money is not valued itself. Instead, it is the belief we have in it that creates value. Money’s flow is more significant than its accumulation because of the energy produced. That energy is what our youth bring to the table. Always have.

We collectively decide every minute of every day what is valued most as we choose our focus of attention and determine our actions. And while money may seem to be the central factor in making things happen, another reality exists, and our youth figure prominently in this alternative.

Greater Diversity News (GDN) is committed to developing a deeper understanding of the Black perspective on Africa and the history of Black people across the globe. The same historical and current exploitations of Black people are in store for our coming generations if we do not address the roots of our problems. This brings context to the need for an institutionalized, worldwide Black student movement. Black students were a transformative part of the Civil Rights Movement.

Unfortunately, however, we didn’t institutionalize student engagement, and the Civil Rights movement faltered. The “It’s a Family Affair” initiative’s aim is to rectify that shortcoming.

We at GDN call on all our audience members to become aware of the vast connections between our plight in the diaspora and Africa’s plight. Our struggle for freedom is linked forever to what is happening on the Mother Continent. Our enemy knows and understands this well. Therefore, your focus on attention, critical thinking, strategic planning, and participation through actions matters tremendously.

Over our 36th year in the media industry, GDN intends to draw clear lines connecting our Ancestors’ past to our present struggles, our plight here in the diaspora, to the plight of our Family on the African Continent. We are committed to bringing light to our neglected collective experiences.

We hope you join us in continuing to remedy the exploitative conditions that exist null and void. Again, we hope to hear from you.

GDN recognizes the moral responsibility of the descendants of slavery and colonization to use our united global voices in our collective pursuit of this liberation.

GDN is committed to helping this and future generations find new solutions to the current constraints of our historic problems.
