We’re excited to share great news from Park City, Utah: films and filmmakers from WMM won both Grand Jury prizes for Documentary at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. GOING TO MARS: THE NIKKI GIOVANNI PROJECT from directors Michèle Stephenson (STATELESS) & Joe Brewster won Sundance’s Grand Jury Prize for U.S. Documentary Competition and Production Assistance Alum Maite Alberti won the World Cinema Documentary Grand Jury Prize for THE ETERNAL MEMORY. Jessica Devaney (dir. LOVE THE SINNER & President of Multitude Films, which WMM partners with on sponsoring their productions) received the 2023 Amazon Studios Nonfiction Producers Award!
At Slamdance, WMM filmmaker Kimi Takesue (HEAVEN’S CROSSROAD/SUMMER OF THE SERPENT) received Slamdance’s Grand Jury Award-Honorable Mention for the Breakouts Section for her WMM-sponsored film ONLOOKERS!

WMM Academy Awards Nomination Streak Continues

The 95th Academy Award nominations have been announced and we are excited that 3 WMM filmmakers and program alum have been nominated, making this the 17th year in a row that a WMM film and/or filmmaker has won or been nominated for an Oscar!
THE MARTHA MITCHELL EFFECT (dir. Anne Alvergue and co dir. Debra McClutchy; prod. Beth Levison and Judith Mizrachy), which was made with the support of the WMM Production Assistance program, has been nominated for Best Documentary Short.
ALL THE BEAUTY AND THE BLOODSHED, directed by Program Alum Laura Poitras, and FIRE OF LOVE, directed by Program Alum Sara Dosa, have both been nominated for Best Documentary Feature. Congratulations to all!

WMM and WMM Filmmakers at Big Sky!

WMM is heading to Big Sky Documentary Film Festival! WMM release STORMING CAESARS PALACE (dir. Hazel Gurland-Pooler) will have its Northwest Premiere on Sunday, February 19. LILY GLADSTONE: FAR OUT THERE, a new film from WMM filmmaker Brooke Swaney (dir. DAUGHTER OF A LOST BIRD), will screen on Monday, February 20th. WMM Managing Director Kendra Hodgson will be in attendance and will serve as a panelist in the Educational Distribution & Impact session during DocShop. WMM-sponsored HOME COURT (dir. Erica Tanamachi, prod. Jenn Lee Smith) and UNTITLED BABY DOE FILM, a new film from Program alum Jessica Earnshaw, are among the 8 projects selected to participate in Big Sky Pitch. KANENON:WE – ORGINAL SEEDS, a new film from WMM filmmakers Katsitsionni Fox (OHERO-KON: UNDER THE HUSK and WITHOUT A WHISPER – KONNON:KWE) and Katja Esson (SKYDANCER, FERRY TALES, and more) is one of 4 projects selected to participate in IF/THEN SHORTS PITCH.
