WIT Wade Scholarship Program Covers Full Cost for African American Students Pursuing a STEM Master’s Degree

by 11/03/2023

Wade Institute of Technology (WIT), an experiential Silicon Valley-based college for students of African descent pursuing careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields, announced that it is accepting applications for the 2024 Wade Scholarship Program (WSP)

Scholarships are available exclusively for students of African descent who are admitted to an engineering master’s degree program that is ranked within the US News & World Report Top 30 US graduate schools of engineering and/or the graduate engineering program of any of the historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs).

WSP Scholars receive full funding for five quarters of master’s-level coursework. Tuition, room and board, books, instructional supplies, other academic expenses, and round-trip transportation are all covered by the scholarship up to $135,000 per student. The terms of the scholarship are subject to change.

Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree in a STEM discipline from an accredited college or university in the U.S. or the equivalent from an international institution. Prospective WSP Scholars will be evaluated in four areas: independent thought, purposeful leadership, civic mindset, and undergraduate achievements.

Funding for the scholarship is provided by Minority Television Project Inc. (MTP), which owns and operates San Francisco Bay Area public television station KMTP-TV 33. Through its support of both WIT and WSP, MTP is working to make transformative changes in the technology ecosystem.

“Given the disparity in support for Black scholars, we want to provide means for them to thrive in their experience at a world-class university, unencumbered by the weight of financial barriers or obligations,” said WIT Executive Director Booker T. Wade, Jr. “Our goal has been and continues to be promoting increased diversity, equity, and inclusion in STEM education and professional disciplines.”

There have been 20 WSP Scholars since the program launched in 2021. Applications for the 2024 scholarships will be accepted through January 12, 2024.
