The City of Virginia Beach Department of Human Services is recruiting for a Customer Services Coordinator to work in collaboration with City’s Central HR Department, the Customer Services Coordinator will:

  • Oversee the human resources unit for the Department of Human Services which is comprised of 1081.41 FTE’s (50+ budget units).  Additionally, this position will serve on departmental Leadership Team.
  • Participate in strategic planning.
  • Review and track employee disciplinary action to ensure that it is administered fairly and consistently and in compliance with city policies, administrative directives and city code; lead and develop unit staff in support of service delivery.
  • Coordinate Human Resources unit responsibilities including: tracking worker’s compensation claims, specialized leave (FML, Military, Injury, Light Duty, Leave of Absence, Leave Without Pay), hiring and recruitment for full and part-time staff, interns and volunteers, part-time market salary surveys, new employee orientation, employee recognition & expenditures, preparation of workforce development/EEO Plans , Departmental Leadership Development Program and Internship Program.
  • Serve as departmental liaison to central human resources, finance payroll and Risk management,organizational development office, city attorney and city auditor; conduct workplace investigations as requested.
  • Assist Leadership Team and managers with human resources issues; develop departmental human resources policies and procedures and facilitate associated training; review all full-time performance feedbacks, exit interviews, resignation letters and member survey results to develop departmental action plan for improving work/life balance and employee engagement; participate in integrative processes for    developing reasonable accommodations; develop and  facilitate departmental training including EEO/Diversity and Workplace Harassment, performance feedback, performance     management/progressive discipline.
  • Serve as lead for departmental Health and Safety Plan Committee; may provide oversight and auditing of departmental payroll.
  • Research and analysis; and report writing.

Requires any combination of education (above the high school level) and/or experience equivalent to nine (9) years, utilizing the required knowledge, skills, and abilities in fields such as business or public administration, management/program analysis, or accounting.

Salary Range:  $57,721.20 – $88,619.54

Preferences:  SPHR/PHR or IPMA certification. 7-10 years of Human Resources experience, preferably in a managerial or leadership role in healthcare or human services environment; experience working with a demonstrated ability to apply and adapt best practices and techniques to the requirements of the business plan; human resources generalist experience including employee relations, staffing/recruitment & compensation, staff development and worker’s compensation, understanding of workforce planning, knowledge of City of Virginia Beach Human Resources policies and procedures.
