Many may view the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. solely through the lens of civil rights. For the two of us, the centerpiece of his message is the power of service and volunteering to heal racial wounds and lead America into a new era of shared responsibility and equal opportunity. Much of Dr. King’s service message can be summed up in one of his most famous sayings: “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is what are you doing for others.”

African-American Baptist Mission Collaboration Increases Donation to Habitat for Humanity to $1 Million to Help Haiti Earthquake Relief
WASHINGTON – The African-American Baptist Mission Collaboration (AABMC) presented Habitat for Humanity International with a second grant of $500,000 in December to support the homebuilding ministry's recovery program in Haiti. The donation follows a previous gift given to the organization in June, bringing the AABMC's total contribution to Habitat to $1 million. The pledge was made and completed in one year.

NCDOT Public-Private Partnership Pilot Meets first Milestone
RALEIGH — This month, a pair of visitor centers in Randolph County on the I-73/74 corridor will mark their first year operating under a public private partnership model as part of a pilot program launched by the N.C. Department of Transportation. Through the pilot program, private vendor Safe-T Concierge Services of Asheboro has contracted with NCDOT to staff and manage the facilities by offering sponsorships to generate operating capital.
