Doing Business in the Motherland – GDN Exclusive Part I

by 01/31/2024

Darren Britt

Black leaders are promoting a fast-growing worldwide conversation about pursuing economic liberation by doing business in the Motherland. Many thought leaders believe Blacks will only realize economic in the diaspora when achieved in Africa. Greater Diversity News (GDN) recently interviewed Darren Britt, a recent investor in Africa and member of the African Diaspora Development Institute (ADDI). Www.ouraddi.org is the website of ADDI, the coalition of Pan-Africanists leading the effort.

GDN recently interviewed Darren for the information in this article and the YouTube video “The product is going to be released soon.” herewith. He first heard of ADDI while listening to a YouTube video presentation by former African Union Ambassador to the United States, Arikana Chihombori-Quao, MD., founder, and leader of ADDI. He said that when he first heard her, she reminded him of Black thought leaders from the Civil Rights Era, like Dr. Martin Luther King (MLK).

Dr. Arikana is a retired physician and native of Zimbabwe. She practiced medicine in Tennessee for twenty-five years before retiring to lead ADDI. She has deep knowledge of African history, its original colonization by European invaders, and its continued exploitation as neo-colonization. In this writer’s opinion, she is the most consequential Black leader in the world since MLK in the US and Kwame Nkrumah of the African Independence Era.

Darren discussed ADDI’s economic liberation mission and its website’s use, along with the book Africa 101 by Dr. Arikana, which people can order on the site. GDN works with ADDI to help pursue her mission by writing articles, producing videos, and showcasing the work of ADDI chapter leaders. In full disclosure, I am the North Carolina Chapter chair.

My co-host and I, NC entrepreneur Gerry McCants, participated in the interview and are collaborating on this new GDN podcasting project entitled “Doing Business in the Motherland.” A long-time Black chamber activist, Gerry and I encourage all Black chamber members to join ADDI, purchase Africa 101, and subscribe to GDN eNews and YouTube channel. www.greaterdiversity.com is our website address, and @greaterdiversitynews9210 is our YouTube channel address.

Darren indicated that he was purchasing land in Ghana and planning a trip there sometime this year when Gerry asked him about his experience doing business in Africa. Like all our podcast guests, he was asked about his knowledge of doing business in Africa and to recommend future guests to enable GDN to bring as much information as possible about this project. Our members are committed to practicing and promoting collective economics.

Our next two articles and podcasts have been scheduled or produced. We are pleased to introduce Bill Williams, a substantial businessman with a long business history in Africa. Rep. Naquetta Ricks, MBA of Denver, Colorado, is a native of Liberia and its founder. and President of the Denver African Chamber of Commerce. Rep. Ricks is the Denver chair of ADDI and has agreed to serve as a regular guest on our podcasts.

Lastly, ADDI and its members are urging Black college students to join this effort and help achieve the unfinished business of the Civil Rights Movement: economic liberation.

Our name speaks to the change we desire to make. For GDN, “diversity” requires that we work together in society through disagreements and differences to promote inclusion where appropriate, to provide access as needed, and to achieve parity where disparities have persisted.

Knowing how important diversity is, GDN cannot stand by quietly as diversity is assaulted. An attack on diversity divides humanity and is disrespectful of differences. “Greater Diversity” is our focus and a key element of our vision for unity (Self-Repair: It’s a family affair!) to work together to develop institutions that shape and repair our culture.

In order to be a high-quality reliable meeting place for news and information that all people in the United States and around the globe can trust, Greater Diversity News needs your support in terms of your time, talent, and treasure.
