Dominion Energy’s HBCU Promise℠

by 06/18/2021

Our $25 million commitment to be shared by 11 HBCUs in 4 states

In 2020, Dominion Energy committed $25 million to be shared by 11 historically black colleges and universities in Virginia, Ohio, North Carolina and South Carolina. The six-year “HBCU PromiseSM” program will support endowments, capital projects, operating expenses and educational programs in clean energy.

As part of our promise, we have created an additional $10 million scholarship fund for African American and underrepresented minority students across our service area. See how to apply.

About the Promise

We have partnered with HBCUs for nearly 40 years, offering volunteer and financial support. As we witness our country’s evolving conversation on race and social justice, we have been looking for ways that we can make a difference. We know that education, especially at our HBCUs, can serve as a springboard for social and economic mobility for many.

When selecting the institutions to receive funding as part of our HBCU PromiseSM, we looked at a range of factors, including locations where we have a lot of customers, past partnerships and opportunities to make an immediate impact. The recipients are:

Virginia

Hampton University, Hampton
Norfolk State University, Norfolk
Virginia Union University, Richmond
Virginia State University, Petersburg

South Carolina

Allen University, Columbia
Benedict College, Columbia
Claflin University, Orangeburg
South Carolina State University, Orangeburg

Ohio

Central State University, Wilberforce
Wilberforce University, Wilberforce

North Carolina

North Carolina A&T State University, Greensboro

We look forward to sharing information in the coming months and years, as our partner HBCUs implement programs, provide scholarships and make capital improvements.
